ENCOURAGEMENT TO "Arab spring"?
With the Yemeni Tawakkul Karman, a journalist and mother aged 32, the Nobel committee distinguishes a woman who worked for peace, democracy and the rights of women before and during the "Arab spring".
"In the most trying circumstances, both before and during the Arab spring, Tawakkul Karman has played a leading role in the fight for women's rights and for democracy and peace in Yemen," said the Nobel Committee in its citation.
At Reuters, the winner said the award was "(...) a message that the era of despotic regimes are gone. "
"This is a victory for the Arab spring in Tunis, Cairo, Libya, Syria and Yemen. Our peaceful revolution will continue until the overthrow (President Ali Abdullah) Saleh and installation of a state civil "she added.
The Egyptian militant human rights Asmaa Mahfouz for his part said: "Give (the Nobel) in Yemen returned to give the Arab spring. It is an honor for us all and for all Arab States ".
